I prefer MyIE2

I downloaded FireBird and played with it some...It seemed like an OK browser but very rigid and it looks like it has a long way to go.MyIE2 has much more flexibility and is getting better by each release.FireBird has potential but there is no way I am switching from MyIE2 anytime soon.

MyIE2 is an okay setup, but its main problem (IMO) is that it still uses IE to run... it's basically an IE skin, so while it may have more functionality than Firebird, it's raises a couple issues.1. It won't work on a machine without a current version of IE (Win95, Linux, Mac, etc.)2. It still has all the security vulnerabilities that come with running IE.Running 3 OS's like I do (WinXP, WinME (at work), and Mandrake), it's nice to have one browser that I can transfer all the settings to and from. ;) Makes me instantly comfortable in whatever system i'm running. :)I'm not saying it's a bad browser enhancement, as I haven't played with it much, but I just wanted to point out the reasons why I don't use it.I'm glad you found something you like, as that's the most important thing about browsing... It's all about finding something you're comfortable using... I'm definitely not going to tell you that Firebird is the end-all browser, as there are definitely people (you for example) that don't care for it... Nothing at all wrong with that! ;)

Ryan - I couldn't agree more! A browser is a tool, and as such, it is a very personal thing.I have a neat saw that works great on wood. Wood is all I work with :)If you work with wood, metal and plastic - it is good to find a saw that works in each environment and you get to keep your favorite handle!(I sound like I need more sleep ;) )

Bingo! Although if you know where I can get a saw that does wood, metal AND plastic, while all using the same comfortable handle, I WANT ONE! ;) ;) Analogy made sense to me, but of course I don't get enough sleep either! ;)

before i discovered mozilla, i too swore by IE overlays. I used Neoplanet mainly, which was nice, but still used IE underneath.may i ask why you thought Firebird was rigid and had a long way to go? Is its its ugly default theme? I never use the default theme (skin), i highly recommend Orbit or Modern theme. Thats the only rigidness i can think of. If anything, Mozilla/Firebird are clearly more flexible, with all the countless plugins you can add to them. I've never had a pop up ad, block all flash ads, have junk mail filters running, all my cookies are screened, and even 75% of banner ads are blocked by selective server image blocking. I used to have 4 or 5 programs running on top of my IE to get close to the browsing i get now. however, thanx for mentioning MYIE2. I'm gonna download it and try it. I still use IE about 10% of the time, so a facelift would be nice for it.

Maybe I didn't play with it enough to learn all it can do. The toolbars took up too much space. The tabs were also too large. I missed being able to create groups of URLs to open all at once.(I see you can do that with favorites though). I guess I have to explore all the plug-ins to add more functionality to it.Have fun with MyIE2. It also has many skins, 2 popup filters, a content filter for banner ads, and it is starting to get more plug-ins. It has a good forum also where you get an answer almost as fast as this forum! It has a few rough edges but a new beta is due out pretty soon. One reason I started this post was to have people reply with all the good things about Firebird as I didn't find much with the first look I gave it. For everyone to be so fanatical about it, I am sure I missed much!

This was one of my biggest pet peeves too. But I use the classic skin & no icons in the toolbars - only text. This makes the toolbars much smaller. I don't tweak Mozilla much, just basics like more window area & networking.BTW, I use Mozilla 1.3b. Still waiting for the Firebird Mail client to be stable - how's it going? My other pet peeve is how difficult it was to set up email, bookmarks & address book in one folder so I can check my email & share the bookmarks & AB from any computer in the house. It is doable in a roundabout sort of way, but not easy. Mozilla doesn't like sharing profiles!

Sieb,The Thunderbird project is coming along nicely... I've been using it as my primary email program for the past couple weeks... A new release is coming out in the next day or two and it's making huge strides! It's still not quite to beta quality yet, but shouldn't be too long!As far as the profile problem goes, it's no different with Thunderbird... won't be any easier to do your profile sharing than it was with Mozilla...(of course it shouldn't be any different)...

Why is that? I've never found anyone to explain this. NS 4.79 shared profiles beautifully!

Umm, Firebird does allow you to open multiple URLs all at once as a tab group. ;)

personally, I don't know much about the profile sharing issues... haven't messed with the direct sharing as I've only got one PC... I would guess that it could be done as you said, but I don't know why the difference between Netscape and Mozilla... You'd think it wouldn't be an issue, but so far it is... Of course there's a chance by the time it reaches full release, the problem will be solved....

NS 6 & 7 never got it figured out either. I don't think that it is much of a priority at Mozilla. I have asked about it & looked for any info about it several times in the Mozillazine.org forums, but no luck so far. ;) Pretty much resigned myself to my awkward setup.----------------------------Keeping my fingers crossed!
