Invalid MS-DOS function./sharing violation when trying to save/delete

Hello all,

I ran into a couple of issues today while trying to save data on a excel sheet and also while trying to simply delete/rename files etc.

I got a few messages from Invalid MS-DOS function to sharing violation to file formats don't match.

So I ran sfc and got no violations found message.

I ran avg tuneup and found a number of registry errors.

Not sure if that is an accurate account of the actual number of registry errors or not.

Also not sure if its a sneaky malware or os problem (I did run some win 10 updates recently..) or just an issue with anti-virus s/w?

I am not quite sure how to go about fixing this. Could someone please help me guide through it?

Thanks in advance.

PS: I have included the screen shots of the msgs I get when I try to save data on an xlsx file..

Hello,

Could you try uploading the screenshots again? I didn't see anything in your post, above.

1. What version of Windows?

2. What version of Excel?

Do you have the image you are trying to post uploaded to a site that allows hotlinking? If you are trying to attach an image file to your post by uploading it here, I think that feature no longer works at this site.

You can upload anonymously here http://www.imagebam.com/

and hotlink.

Sorry for the late reply guys.

I use Windows 10 and Excel 2013.

I do not know what has happened. I had to run a couple more updates that weren't getting installed yesterday and today I am able to rename/copy/edit excel/jpg files.

But, I would still like to know why it happened.

Heres the link for the images.. (The site you mentioned is blocked in my country :ermm: )

Hello,

Do you have any problems saving the files to another location on the computer, or to an external device (USB flash drive, external hard disk, etc.)?

Nope. None at all. Only when the thing mucked up, I couldn't move, copy, rename, delete or edit any files in the folder or the desktop.

The PC ANalyzer on AVG still shows 296 registry errors though.

Thank you.

Hello,

From looking around, I haven't found an exact match for this error, but some similar problems suggest it might be due to issues with the file system. You might want to try running a Chkdsk (filename: CHKDSK.EXE) and if it finds (and fixes) any problems. Also, it probably would be a good idea to run the System File Checker (filename: SFE.EXE) afterwards to make sure there are no issues with the operating system, either.

Thanks Aryeh, Zlim and Capt. Crow for your response.

I ran chkdsk and sfc and found no issues at all.

Do run the two programs Aryeh mentioned and forget about PC Analyzer.

Looks like that is all that is needed! Thank you once again guys.
