That is sad news indeed.

He was a visionary leader of free software and always did the hard things required to live up to his stated beliefs.

To me, this man was much more of a visionary and innovator than Steve Jobs ever was. As a Slackware devotee, I salute Mr. Murdock. Debian GNU/Linux will always have a special place in my heart (and is often found on partitions somewhere on my systems). This is a great loss to GNU/Linux; and the Debian community in particular.

 

Requiescat in pace.

Methinks it is very strange that persons who spread the word of peace seem to be assasinated when they start to get traction among the people.

 

I would love to read your ideas on this .

No, not going to comment, it would get way too political.

Ian Murdock was not assassinated and AFAIK his police encounters were not related to his professional life.
