cybormoron
i installed Debian Squeeze on one of my old test machines. i reallylike it so far. everything is going great 'cept for a few littleproblems which i've easily solved so far.1st little problem: noscript v2.1.0.2 wouldn't install in Iceweasel. anewer version of noscript is available v2.1.0.3 and installs ok.solved.2nd little problem: this is a big annoyance and a possible genuine bug. there's a notification in Nautilus about Personal File Sharing that's super annoying. this page has a comment about how to prevent the notification that works for me. just rename the file. solved. /usr/lib/nautilus/extensions/libnautilus-share-extension.soanother page talks about removing the program that causes it (gnome-user-share). i don't know if this works as i'm not sure if i need the program or not at this time. i tried stopping it from running but that didn't seem to work. so for now i just renamed the file.http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/de...autilus-835718/3rd little problem: i installed without speakers being plugged in. i don't know if Debian installs sound support by default or not. when i plugged the speakers in i had no sound. i installed a some pulse audio and gstreamer stuff. solved.that's all the problems so far.i'm currently studying how to add more repositories for apt.edit by me, steve. i found a good thread about this right here at Scot's http://forums.scotsnewsletter.com/index.ph...5&hl=debiani don't know if Iceweasel is using flash or gnash plugin. i think it's gnash. youtube works so no probs here. this page tells me i have an old version tho. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/i might keep this around awhile as i'm getting too tired of hopping around. zlim
I assume if I want to download an ISO to install to a pendrive, I'd start herehttp://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/release/current-live/i386/This would be more up to date than my Debian etch on my netbook. Can I make the install on a pendrive persistent? sunrat
There's a section on persistence in the wiki. It looks like you need to add a partition image file to the usb key and label it live-rw.See http://live.debian.net/manual/en/html/cust...behaviours.html
