I have recently gone through most of my distros to update libflashplayer.so to the version ending in ....425.  In theory you should only have to copy that file over the old one of the same name, wherever it is located, but in most cases here that didn't work as well as expected, perhaps due to Firefox somehow misinterpreting the name and rev number as containing comma separators instead of periods?

Anyway, for me the real fix seems to be to get the current rev 35.0 of Firefox and install that.  I hate the new look, but I'll tolerate it better than having to constantly override the flash objection.  I dunno where [location] FF35 looks to find that file, but have found that creating a 'plugins' subdir under ~./.mozilla/firefox/*.default -- and copy the libflashplayer to that -- it'll be found and used.

I also seriously dislike the latest iterations of Firefox.  In the event you're interested in trying it, there is a Linux version of Pale Moon:  http://www.palemoon.....shtml#.  There is even a dedicated Pale Moon for Linux forum.

If none of the things on this page works, I might be time to move to Google Chrome or manually install the latest version of Firefox and then follow the wiki above.

Another viable option would be to move to Wheezy. ;)

I use Google Chrome in Wheezy personally.

I have to be real careful now . Everything was different on boot-up today . So no surprise if I drop out with big problems.

First I was asked to boot from one of the rom drives or the net card . Then the good old grub kicked in after pressing F4. Phew!

I've been waiting 6mths for the Deb dead tree manual .. Still sold out .

Yes, it is Update Tuesday and with it comes updates to Adobe Flash Player and AIR.  Users of the Adobe Flash Player desktop runtime for Windows and Macintosh should update to Adobe Flash Player 18.0.0.160.  The current version of Adobe AIR is 18.0.0.144.  (The latest versions for Linux, Android and Flash Player ESR are included in my blog post.)

An interesting update to the latest version of Flash Player is the Improved Flash Player Install Process, documented in the Release Notes, Flash Player® 18 AIR® 18:

Quote

"With Flash Player 18, in the vast majority of cases, the installer will no longer display a dialog to shut down the currently running browsers or applications that are using Flash Player!

Once the installation is completed, you will be notified that the browser may need to be restarted to use the newly installed version. This requirement depends on your browser’s ability to see the new version.  Either way, Flash will continue to work and you can easily force the new version to appear by simply restarting your browser when it’s convenient for you."

Last week Adobe released another out-of-band critical security update for Flash Player -- Version 18.0.0.203 of Adobe Flash Player for Windows and Macintosh and Version 18.0.0.180 of Adobe AIR.  Version information for Linux and the Extended Release is available below.  It is strongly advised that you update Flash Player if you haven't done so already.  However, don't be complacent thinking Flash Player is now secure.  Yet another zero-day has been uncovered and is actively being exploited!  (See Another Hacking Team Flash Player 0day Uncovered (UPDATED))

Details regarding the update released last week:

This update addresses critical vulnerabilities that could potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system.  Because an exploit targeting CVE-2015-5119 has been published publicly, updating to the latest version as soon as possible is advised.

  • Users of the Adobe Flash Player Extended Support Release should update to Adobe Flash Player 13.0.0.302.
  • Users of Adobe Flash Player for Linux should update to Adobe Flash Player  11.2.202.481.
  • Adobe Flash Player installed with Google Chrome, as well as Internet   Explorer on Windows 8.x, will automatically update to the current   version.
  • The latest version of Adobe AIR for Android is 18.0.0.180 and earlier versions, available by downloading it from the Android Marketplace by browsing to it on a mobile phone.

Note to Adobe Shockwave Player Users:  Adobe has released a critical security update for Adobe Shockwave Player which resolves memory corruption vulnerabilities that could lead to code execution on the Windows and Macintosh operating systems.

Although I have yet to need Shockwave Player on this computer, there are still many people who use it.  If you have Shockwave Player installed, please update to the latest version.

The newest version 12.1.9.159 is available here: http://get.adobe.com...ockwave/.  As usual, watch for any pre-checked add-ons not needed for the update.

Thanks Corrine. My main browser is Chrome 64bit, (gave up on getting IE10 to work properly), and Adobe does not have a 64bit Shockwave Player available... However, I've not seen an error message on Chrome that a webpage wouldn't work because of the lack of shockwave. Chrome automagically updates Adobe Flash by itself.

do all graphical browsers all current versions block automatic playing of Flash?

Hmmm. I checked the version of Flash using Control Panel in WIN7, and it was still showing the old version. Went to Chrome settings and checked the "Update" button, and Chrome downloaded and installed the newest Chrome version 46.0.2490.71 m (64-bit). After Chrome rebooted, again checked Flash in Control Panel, and it still showed the old version. Went to the Flash download page using IE10 and downloaded the version shown above. Installed it and now Flash shows the newest version in Control Panel.
I thought that Chrome used their own version of Flash, like IE11 does, and should have automagically installed the newest version when Chrome updates?

The Control panel will show the version of flash in IE. (Mine says at the bottom when I open Flash Player: The settings on this page are not applicable to Google Chrome or Chromium based browsers PPAPI).

I have to do two flash updates each time in Windows 7: one for IE and one for Firefox and Palemoon.
