MikeLooks like your Z 25 is not supported by Mandrake. The Z11, 12, 22, 32, 42, 51 and 52 are !What you could do is try the drivers of one of these, sometimes they just do the job.Go to the KDE Control Center ( not Mandr. Contr. Center ) and ---> peripherals ---> printers. Go in administrator mode ( button bottom left ) and fiddle around a bit. You might just get lucky. If you come to the ¨cups-server¨ your password is the same as your rootpassword. Sometimes it can get additional printer driversB) Bruno

Bruno,These are the official Lexmark-Linux drivers. After installation, I can use the Lexmark GUI to install ink cartridge, align printer heads and so forth. But when I try to print a .txt or .doc file they don´t go to the lexmark Queue; they go to the Unix queue. Here is the readme txt: READMELexmark Z25-Z35 Linux Printer Driver/******************************************************/Linux System Dependencies/******************************************************/The Lexmark Z25 Color Jetprinter and the Lexmark Z35 Color Jeprinter are USB only printing devices. They will only run on computer with a USB port available and which is running a Linux distribution with a Linux kernel capable of supporting USB devices. Therefore, it is required that the Linux kernel be at 2.2.18 level or higher. To receive all the bidirectional communication functionality of this printer driver, it is suggested that the user run with a Linux kernel 2.4.0 or higher. This printer driver requires the ENSCRIPT utility, and this utility must be present on the system for the printer driver to be installed. The printer driver also has a dependency on the GHOSTSCRIPT package being installed on the system. This package must be present on the system for the printer driver to be installed. It is suggested for the best performance, that the system contain GHOSTSCRIPT version 6.01 or higher./******************************************************/How to Install Lexmark Z25-Z35 Printer Software/******************************************************/You will need to do the following to install the Lexmark Z25-Z35 printer software for Linux.By default, the printer driver is setup to USB Port printing. The printer should be plugged into the USB port, and then the printer driver installed.Printer Software files.1. Download the cjxZyylq.tar.gz file from the Lexmark Web site, where yy is the printer number and q is the language denotation. Once downloaded, uncompress the file using the gunzip utility, and untar the file using the tar utility.2. Type: sh lexmarkz25-z35.gz.sh3. Most Lexmark Z25-Z35 Printer Software files will be copied to the directory /usr/local/lexmark/z25-z35/ 4. To uninstall the printer driver type the following command: rpm -e lexmarkz25-z35/**********************************/How to Print from any application/**********************************/1. Select the Print Queue named lexmarkz35 from the application. 2. If application does not offer Print Queue selection, type the following: lpr -Plexmarkz35/**********************************/How to print from a terminal window/**********************************/In a terminal window, enter the following command:lpr -Plexmarkz35 <filename>/*******************/Troubleshooting/*******************/No communication with printer=============================Use a certified USB cable. Lexmark recommends that you download and installGhostscript version 6.01 and higher to resolve STACK error.Multiple user printer configuration support===========================================Under SuSE 6.2, SuSE 6.3 or any distribution using a version of LPR under 0.50, only one configuration file is used (the root's configuration file found in /var/spool/lexmark/Z35Driver). If the user wants to support multiple user printer configuration, then upgrade to at least LPR 0.50./**********************************************************/How to use Lexmark Z25-Z35 Graphical User Interface utility/**********************************************************/Lexmark Z25-Z35 Graphical User Interface (GUI) utility is located as /usr/local/lexmark/z25-z35/lexmarkz25-z35. You can add a shortcut in your desktop for easy access to the GUI utility. For instruction of how to create a shortcut; please refer to your Linux OS help manual. The Lexmark Z25-Z35Graphical User Interface (GUI) utility consists of a set of printer property tabs and help screens to allow you to change your print job parameters such as: Print Quality, Copies, Paper type, Paper size, Orientation, and Print style. * Print Quality:When you open the printer software for the first time, the print quality is set to Normal. However, you can adjust your print quality to:Quick Print Fast speed and reduced print qualityNormal Average print speed and good print qualityBetter Reduced print speed and excellent print qualityBest Reduced print speed and the best print quality* Multiple Copies:The copies function allows the print job to be printed multiple times. For example, setting the application copy to 2 and the Lexmark Z25-Z35 GUI copy setting to 3, will result in 6 copies of the document (2 x 3 = 6). It is strongly suggested that only one of the copy settings be changed - either in the application or in the Lexmark Z25-Z35 GUI.* Paper Types:Supported paper types are: Plain Paper for typical xerographic paperCoated Paper for printing on High Resolution Ink Jet paperGlossy/Photo Paper for printing on glossy paper or filmTransparency for printing on transparenciesIron-On Transfer to print a T-Shirt TransferGreeting Card Stock for printing on greeting card stock* Paper Size:Important: In order to get the correct print output, the paper size selected in the application must closely match the paper size selected in the Lexmark Z25-Z35 GUI utility. The supported paper sizes are:Letter 8.5 x 11 in.A4 210 x 297 mmStatement 5.5 x 8.5 inLegal 8.5 x 14 in.B5 182 x 257 mmExecutive 7.25 x 10.5 in.A5 148 x 210 mmA6 Cardstock 105 x 148 mmIndex Card 3 x 5 in.Banner (Letter) 8.5 x ** in.Banner (A4) 210 x ** mmPostCard 4 x 6 in.Hagaki 1000 x 148 mmEnvelope 6 3/4 3.625 x 6.5 in.Envelope #9 3.88 x 8.88 in.Envelope #10 4.13 x 9.5 in.Envelope DL 110 x 220 mmEnvelope C5 162 x 229 mmEnvelope C6 114 x 162 mmEnvelope B5 176 x 250 mmEnvelope 7 3/4 3.875 x 7.5 in.A2 Baronial 111.1 x 146 mmChokei 3 120 x 235 mmChokei 4 90 x 205 mmChokei 40 90 x 225 mmKakugata 3 216 x 277 mmKakugata 4 197 x 267 mmKakugata 5 190 x 240 mmKakugata 6 162 x 229 mmCustom * Set by User* Orientation:You have the option of printing in Portrait or Landscape. Yes but now that you have the drivers, can´t you go to the KDE Control Center and get them to work for you ?Try also the XPP X-printing panel ( Menu-->Configuration-->Printing--> XPP ) There are several ways to configure your printer in mandrake. You did get that Ghostscript stuff din´t you ?B) Bruno

Mm.. I can't help this thread out much, but I certainly feel that if your printer has USB port, Linux should be able to operate it immedately. My HP Deskjet 3820 was identified within a sec without any external drivers under SuSE, I was able to plug the printer USB into my computer, and start printing right away

Had the same good luck with my Epson Stylus(meaning it worked fine), until it quit working all together. Just got to old and quit. That is why I got the new Lexmark(only $37.00 at Mal-Mart). Cartridges cost more than the whole printer.Bruno,I'm in KDE control panel now and am trying to add printer. And keep getting wrong driver format. But still trying.Mike180 :D

Mm..if you knew the cartridge is costing more than the printer per se, why did you want to buy it in the first place? Isn't that hitting right on your face? no offense :P

The nice thing about the lexmarks is that they are so cheap. Use it until the cartridge is done then sell it for a few bucks to a computer shop and buy a new printer. And they're pretty fast too. The problem is that lexmark only supports linux half way. I could never get my old 1100 to work, even though it supposedly is supported in linux.

I just go on the internet and buy cartridges, for up to 85% off. So really, nothing is wrong. Just don't buy retail. :P :P .mike180
