Experience with AV for Android?

I recently purchased a Kimble Fire tablet, and am wondering about an AV. Is anyone aware of a comparison of the various free and paid AVs for the Android tablets?

So far I like the Kimble.

Thanks,

Jerry

I think you mean Kindle, Jerry.

malware is more a problem than viruses.

I run Malwarebytes. It is free for android devices.

I aslo run a paid av program, ESET.

Does the Kindle have access to the googleplay store?

If so https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware

Yes, and my typing is bad.

I think when the Trend Micro trial is up then the free version kicks in. It seems to have a good rep with AVC in Windows. Let's see I have a Kindle Fire. I got it right this time. :teehee:

Thanks for the help.

Hello,

Hello,

There are certainly a lot to choose from. A quick (and very incomplete) listing of security apps for Android OS:

  • Ahn Lab V3 Mobile Security
  • Alibaba Mobile Security
  • Anguanjia Security Manager
  • Antiy AVL
  • Avast! Mobile Security
  • AVG Antivirus Free
  • Avira Free Android Security
  • Baidu Mobile Security
  • BitDefender Mobile Security
  • Bullguard Mobile Security
  • CheetahMobile CM Security
  • ESET Mobile Security
  • G Data Internet Security
  • Ikarus Mobile Security
  • Kaspersky Internet Security
  • Intel (formerly McAfee) Mobile.Security
  • NSHC Droid-X
  • PSafe Total 2.1
  • Qihu 360 Antivirus
  • Quick Heal Total security
  • Sophos Mobile Security
  • Symantec Norton Mobile Security
  • Tencent Mobile Security Manager
  • Trend Micro Mobile Security
  • Webroot Secure Anywhere

Also, check out of the comparative tests such as those done by AV-Test and AV-Comparatives and you'll probably be able to find something that has the features you're looking for in your budget.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have no complaints with Trend Micro, but my preference for an AV is Kaspersky. I will get one that works on Windows and Android.

My problem is that I don't know how to install the one I have on my Kindle. I realize that one purchased from Amazon or Kindle store will automatically be downloaded to my Kindle. However I will probably get one off eBay and do not know how to install it on my Kindle.??

Read here http://www.gizmag.com/how-to-install-google-apps-kindle-fire-hd-hdx/30736/

on how to side load something.

You need to go into settings and briefly change to download from unknown sources so you can get the app.

(I had to do that to install ESET on my tablet because ESET is not in googlplay).

Then go here with your Kindle https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kms.free&hl=en

and download it.

Correct. Android apps are installed through the tablet not from a CD or DVD.

I suspect what you are looking at on eBay is a Windows not an Android version and would not work on an Android device.

Actually there is a version I just bought that is for 5 devices and includes Android.I doubt I coul DL the application without going thru the Amazon or Kindle store. Of course I can keep the "Free" version of Trend Micro.

Thanbk,

Jerry
