JerryM
I recently purchased a Kimble Fire tablet, and am wondering about an AV. Is anyone aware of a comparison of the various free and paid AVs for the Android tablets? So far I like the Kimble. Thanks, Jerry
zlim
I think you mean Kindle, Jerry. http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/do-you-need-antivirus-on-android/ malware is more a problem than viruses. I run Malwarebytes. It is free for android devices. I aslo run a paid av program, ESET. Does the Kindle have access to the googleplay store? If so https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware

I think when the Trend Micro trial is up then the free version kicks in. It seems to have a good rep with AVC in Windows. Let's see I have a Kindle Fire. I got it right this time. Thanks for the help. Jerry
zlim
If you are happy with Trend Micro, then by all means, continue to use it.

zlim
Thanks for the links to av test for mobile. I wasn't aware of testing done on that.

JerryM
I have no complaints with Trend Micro, but my preference for an AV is Kaspersky. I will get one that works on Windows and Android. My problem is that I don't know how to install the one I have on my Kindle. I realize that one purchased from Amazon or Kindle store will automatically be downloaded to my Kindle. However I will probably get one off eBay and do not know how to install it on my Kindle.?? zlim
Read here http://www.gizmag.com/how-to-install-google-apps-kindle-fire-hd-hdx/30736/ on how to side load something. You need to go into settings and briefly change to download from unknown sources so you can get the app. (I had to do that to install ESET on my tablet because ESET is not in googlplay). Then go here with your Kindle https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kms.free&hl=en and download it.
JerryM
It appears that I can't buy an AV off eBay and install it on my Kindle. Is that correct? Thanks for all the help. Jerry
zlim
Correct. Android apps are installed through the tablet not from a CD or DVD. I suspect what you are looking at on eBay is a Windows not an Android version and would not work on an Android device.
JerryM
Actually there is a version I just bought that is for 5 devices and includes Android.I doubt I coul DL the application without going thru the Amazon or Kindle store. Of course I can keep the "Free" version of Trend Micro. Thanbk, Jerry
