MP3 Burning Glitch

Recommended Posts

I have a couple of hundred MP3's on DVD's and a hard drive. Today I went to Burn some mp3's to a DVD and kb3 says I need a mad library I installed what I could find and still won't work says need a decoder and some other stuff. I tried brasero and it wont burn mps'3 either. I can burn them to a data disc but not as a sound or music disk. I am using mint 19 maybe some nonfree files are missing. any suggestions?

Here is what I get in K3B

MP3 Audio Decoder plugin not found.

K3b could not load or find the MP3 decoder plugin. This means that you will not be able to create Audio CDs from MP3 files. Many Linux distributions do not include MP3 support for legal reasons.

Solution: To enable MP3 support, please install the MAD MP3 decoding library as well as the K3b MAD MP3 decoder plugin (the latter may already be installed but not functional due to the missing libmad). Some distributions allow installation of MP3 support via an online update tool.

Oh and this too:

First be sure you have installed mint-meta-codecs.

Then, as k3b is a KDE application you would need to install some additional packages following the release notes

Issues with KDE apps

If you're experiencing issues with KDE apps (Okular, Gwenview, KStars..etc) run the following command:

sudo apt install kdelibs-bin kdelibs5-data kdelibs5-plugins

And last, you will skip a lot of malfunctions running foreign apps following this recommendations.

K3b used to be the almost perfect disc burner but has suffered from lack of love lately. I had to change group permissions of the wodim and cdrdao binaries to get it to burn at all recently.

Debian has libmad0 in its repos. Maybe you just need to install that.

Otherwise you could convert your files to mp3 with another program before burning them.

mint-meta-codecs is installed. I removed it and reinstalled no joy. I also run Siduction 3 k3b is not installed so used the default application and it fails when trying to write. will try reinstalling using synaptic.

Thanks everyone for the info and advice. From the Mint forums everyone has the same problem with Mint 19 and DVD burners. especially burning MP3. A lot of it has to do with security and cinnamon. The problem exists with the 3 burners I've tried. May have to start looking for another distro or wait for mint to come out with some fixes.

Thanks again everyone.

Well Folks, here is how things stand right now after following some of the suggestions. I can burn MP3's to Music CD's with K3B and Brasero But I Can't burn MP3's to Music DVD's I repeat None of the Linux Burning software will burn a Music DVD. They will burn MP3 Music as Data to a DVD, but not as Music. I would like to be able to Burn my MP3 Music to a Audio DVD instead of Data. I guess until the dev's of K3B and Brasero make some changes it won't be possible. If you know of any Linux Burning software that will Burn MP3's to a DVD as audio and not data. Let me know.

Try this:

growisofs -Z /dev/sr0 -dvd-compat -R -J file1.mp3 file2.mp3 file3.mp3

I used to use growisofs all the time to burn iso's back in the day but I have not used optical media in years.

Thanks Security for the info and your help. I only Burn my MP3's to a DVD because when traveling I can listen to about 9 hours of music without having to change DVD's. With CD I have to change a CD about every hour. I have hundreds of MP3's gathered over the past 15 or 16 years. They are all on a Ext 5 terabyte HD and some on my computers ssd. I wore my old dvd's out when traveling from Northern Nevada to southern Az Decided to make some new one out of my song collection. I can burn them to a data DVD, but the sound quality is not the same as a audio DVD. Guess I will use win 10 to do it using a GUI.

Thanks anyway.

I completely understand I also have hundreds of thousands of mp3s. Let me know if that helped you out any.
