LLfan
Alright, the only thing I love more then Linux is the Open Source community that surrounds it. Now I've heard Apple has a bit of an open source community surrounding Darwin. Now I'm not expecting the same as linux, but is there a decent amount of open source software written for Mac? If so please provide links. Thanks,Mike
Arena2045
My current work load doesn't permit me to explore all the cool open source software for Mac OS X, so I don't know of that many must have (open source) apps; though, I have in the past searched for an open source app if a shareware app was too expensive or buggy.A given would be to search SourceForge.net ( http://sourceforge.net/search/ ) Type in "Mac" (no quotes), and you will get a lot of hits, not all relating to projects for the Mac OS, but most are. You may find that some popular apps from Linux are carried over to Mac OS X.You might want to look over the following sites (for more info) as well:http://developer.apple.com/darwin/index.htmlhttp://developer.apple.com/unix/index.htmlhttp://developer.apple.com/tools/macosxtools.htmlDon't know if this is what you are looking for, but might be a start. Arena2045
Not specifically "open source" but these sites list some great Mac OS software (retail, shareware, donation-ware, freeware, open source); could give you ideas of programs that you might want to search for if there are open source equivalents...http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/http://versiontracker.com/macosx/http://www.macupdate.com/index.php?os=macosx
SonicDragon
Also take a look at the fink project. Things like Thunderbird and Firefox also work on the mac.
