Numerous MacMinute readers note that Apple has released iTunes 4.5. New features of version 4.5 are listed as free downloads/single of the week, iMix to publish your playlists, a music videos page, movie trailers from within iTunes, radio charts, "Party Shuffle" dynamic playlist, CD insert printing, "Wish Lists," importing of WMA files (Windows), a lossless encoder, and direct links to the movie store from your music library. Apple also notes that the user agreement has changed to allow up to five machines to play purchased songs (up from three), and unlimited CD burning of songs -- burn any playlist up to seven times (down from 10). iTunes 4.5 for Macintosh requires Mac OS X v10.1.5 or later.

Apple has release updated firmware for iPod and iPod minis. "iPod Update 2004-04-28 supports all models of iPod and iPod mini introduced before April 28, 2004. This update is required to take advantage of new features in iTunes 4.5 and the iTunes Music Store," notes Apple. Other changes in the update include improved playback performance and support for the Apple Lossless Encoder (for iPod with a Dock connector and iPod mini). System requirements for this update are Mac OS X 10.1.5 or later (some features require Mac OS X 10.2.8 or later) and iTunes 4.5. [Thanks to Lorenzo dell'Uva for this news tip.]

It was up and down at various points in the day... They have added a lot: streaming music videos, streaming movie trailers, iMixes, etc.I had difficulty getting in this evening, but kept trying. There is a new license agreement that you need to accept before you download any songs. They bumped down the burn limit on playlists from 10 to 7, but bumped up the number of computers you can authorize from 3 to 5 (but it appears that they didn't fix the loop hole which allows you to authorize more computers than the limit, all though that's against the terms of service). If you want the free music download, you need to upgrade to iTunes version 4.5 before it will show up as free. Also if you have an iPod, and installed iTunes 4.5, the iPod will NOT show up in iTunes... You will need to download the new iPod firmware in order for it to be readable by iTunes 4.5.

That's strange. I just downloaded 4.5 and the iPod was working fine. I just assumed that the firmware update must have been included or something  Thanks for the list of free songs ;)

Interesting... Didn't bother me, I had planned on updating the software anyway. I did the restore feature. I experienced significant battery performance with the last update when I did a restore instead of an update. So this time just to make sure I get the most out of my iPod, I backed up my data on it, and did the restore with no problems. :( I missed one of the free songs, but thats ok... Should be interesting to see if they do a similar promo every-so-often.

Sounds good to me! I'd love it if they did it more often :w00t:
