Does the cable company have Italian programming?

Oh yes, there is a Canadian based company called TeleLatino and we pay extra so she can get RAI - an Italian news service similar to CNN. Also a couple of multiglot channels called Omni feature some Italian shows.

I honestly don't know how the cable TV folks could expect an 87 year old lady who speaks mostly Italian to deal with this stuff.
Unfortunately, an older person needs an advocate, even if he/she is fluent in English!

When my mom lived alone and had a box from RCN, she would frequently push the wrong button. (She couldn't see well to know what she was pushing). And they've made it so the Universal Remotes with few and large buttons don't work with any of the boxes.

When we came to visit, my husband would have to call the cable company and go through the steps to get tv again. (We had Comcast so our experience did not transfer to a different cable company and a different box).

We'd love to use a remote with just the numbers, a volume up/down, a channel up/down and an off button.

We can punch in channel numbers.

One of our remotes had a way to either show or not show channels so I could eliminate the ones we never watched when I'd channel surf.

Ah... new technology strikes again. Sure seems that the technology I grew up with was ever so much more durable and long-lasting than the carp we have nowadays. :(

Speaking of carp, find a fishtank the same size as your old TV cabinet, put it inside and fill it with goldfish. They look magic!

I've been doing my usual radio-electronics stuff all summer.

Now I got the bug and began, a few days ago, all the hard

work of gathering and processing firewood for this Fall.

I think I have enough. So far, work has been limited to my

own yard- splitting, tossing, stacking, etc. Sure wore me out

those first few days. It was warm, too. Took breaks pretty

often and kept hydrated... hard though it is, I actually enjoy

working with firewood- and sure enjoy the fires mid-winter!

P.S. I did have to get up on Betty's roof a couple of weeks

ago. We developed a stain in one bedroom ceiling. It was

pretty easy to fix- a few shingles broken off exposing nail

heads. I sealed it all up with roofing tar and made it look good

again, to boot. It's like hand-carving your own jigsaw puzzle

pieces...

I got surprisingly sore and exhausted from that job, too.

Boy, am I ever getting out of shape. I'm sure I'll be doing

much better later in the Fall...

Did you ever finish the roof on your own house?

Er, ah- nope. A long story. Last summer was two months of h3ll with Betty

hospitalized. And home caring for her is a job in its own right. Don't quite know

what happened this year, but I haven't gotten back to it. May not this year,

either. FWIW it's a tight enough installation I haven't had any leaks- and it's

certainly the most unique roof in my neighborhood- and county. Heh!

No one has been after me about it the past year and a half... knock on wood...

I had a burst of energy a couple of weeks ago, but spent that entire week

processing firewood so I'll have enough to make it through this winter. I'm

short on fuel but will probably squeak through.

I've been lower energy than usual this past year, tend to want to sit home

and do more sedentary stuff. Not good, need to get out more and do things...
