Time to create my Mandrake Update CD for my adoptee. This is the last piece I was waiting for.

Installed the updates from ftp to my test install (if it did not work it was not a big problem it is getting rebuilt tonight anyway).

Then installed gnome-games via MCC. Waited a minute for the menu to be updated. New games now available. Restarted system. Menus intact.

Next tested clean install on my desktop system. Installed updates from newly created Update CD (they were all there). Next installed games via command line ( "urpmi install gnome-games" ). Waited. Checked Menu. Restarted. Menus Ok.

Note: There were no FTP sources on the desktop system.

No idea what happened on your system, but, I have not seen the problem (so far). I did run into some gremlins with the Update CD. I don't understand them either, but, have updated the posts to reflect findings.

Still two Mdk92 installs to go, so, I will have lots of chances to retest. Hopefully this should be the last install binge for a while. The last two installs are a minimimal install as a mklivecd source, and another semi-stripped install to test multimedia kernel/jack/etc. Just have to make sure I am working on the correct system/distro image.

Hmmm. Idea. I can change the wallpaper on each instance so I will have a visual cue. Yep. That should do it.

Owyn . . . it always takes a few weeks to get all the bugs out of a release . . if we just keep updating on a regular basis you will see that in the second moth after the official release we all will have a super-stable system wink.gif Nothing to worry about . . .

drakxtools-9.2-19.3.92mdk
drajxtools-newt-9.2-19.3.92mdk
harddrake-9.2-19.3.92mdk
harddrake-ui-9.2-19.3.92mdk

QUOTE
A number of bugs have been fixed in the drakxtools package.  Primarily, problems with drakconnect were fixed.  The old behaviour of drakconnect to detect network interfaces was to load all of the network modules corresponding to current hardware and look for network interfaces created by the module loading.  However, determining network interfaces in this way prevented drakconnect from ever seeing USB ethernet adapters.  As well, the way in which drakconnect mapped real network interfaces to a logical configuration prevented drakconnect from mapping interfaces without an alias in /etc/modules.conf.  Finally, drakconnect had problems handling wireless network devices correctly. The updated package also provides a more up-to-date wireless modules list so drakconnect is able to determine more types of wireless devices.

A number of other smaller bugs have been repaired as well and MandrakeSoft encourages all users to upgrade to these new packages.

Description: Contains many Mandrake applications simplifying users and administrators life on a Mandrake Linux machine. Nearly all of them work both under XFree (graphical environment) and in console (text environment), allowing easy distant work.

Two updates for Drake this morning. The first is CVS-1.11.10-0.1.92mdk to correct a security vulnerability where a malformed module request could cause the CVS server to attempt to create directories and files at the root level. CVS or Concurrent Version System records the history and dffreence between verions of files you create.

Screen 3.9.15-2.1.92mdk is another security update. This one deals with a buffer overflow that allows others to gain control of another user's screen session. Screen allows you to have multiple logins on one terminal. It is used for folks that telnet into a machine or use more than one login.

Combined download: 2MB

QUOTE
mportance: security

Summary: Kpilot programm

Reason for update: A vulnerability was discovered in all versions of kdepim as distributed with KDE versions 3.1.0 through 3.1.4.  This vulnerability allows for a carefully crafted .VCF file to potentially enable a local attacker to compromise the privacy of a victim's data or execute arbitrary commands with the victim's privileges.  This can also be used by remote attackers if the victim enables previews for remote files; however this is disabled by default.

The provided packages contain a patch from the KDE team to correct this problem.
